What does the concept of “dental hygiene” mean?

Dental hygiene is an efficient therapeutic and preventative method widely employed in modern dentistry with the aim to support the life-long natural teeth retention.

Regular dental care helps to prevent caries. The removal of plaque and tartar as a breeding ground for most oral bacteria may also reduce the risk of periodontitis and other disorders of the oral cavity.

How often should you visit your dental hygienist?

The recommended frequency is at least two visits a year. Where a periodontal disorder and/or increased tartar formation and/or a higher rate of decay are present, at least four visits a year are advisable. A dental hygiene visit does not too long: it takes 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the condition of the patient’s teeth.
